Situated at 60km south-west of Addis Ababa Melka-Kunture is a famous archaeological site where fossils of prehistory age as well as stone tools dating 1.5 million years have been discovered. Few km drives this point can be reached Adadi Mariam Cave Church believed to date back to the 13th century and gives a good indication of the Lalibela rock-hewn churches of the 12th century.

On the way after 100km drive is the renowned monastery of Debre Libanos, founded in the 13th century in a magnificent 700m-high canyon.

Sodore, at 126 km south of Addis Ababa, is a very popular resort area. To reach there the road passes through some interesting towns of Kaliti, Akaki, Debre Zeit, Mojo and Nazareth.
